But Eileen Olexiuk says her concerns were ignored.

She tells the CBC she arrived in Afghanistan in 2002 and was second in command at the Canadian Embassy in Kabul.

Ms. Olexiuk says she told the Liberal government in power at the time that the transfer agreement didn't do enough to protect detainees.

She said Canadian officials didn't monitor detainees after the transfer, and that left detainees vulnerable once they were in Afghan hands.

Ms. Olexiuk, who met with torture victims during her three years in Afghanistan, says she documented her concerns in human rights reports prepared for the Department of Foreign Affairs She says she stressed that Canadians should have been visiting the detainees regularly after transfers and making records of detainees who were still being held and those who had been released.

But Ms. Olexiuk says her advice was ignored by Paul Martin's government.

What disgusts me more than anything,is the Liberals trying so desperatlley, to paint Canada as a Country of War Criminals.
They saw an opportunity to gain political points,no matter how they were attained.
They better be dam sure that they come out of any inquiry smelling sweeter than a rose, and squeaky clean, or many Canadians should never forgive them .
But the facts are already known,that they handed prisoners over to the Afghan's knowing there was a good possibility that they would be tortured.
They were few options,and they did what they thought was best,just like the Conservative Govt. did,except the current Govt. did made provisions for inspections.
The Conservatives have acknowledged that the Liberals did there best,in a difficult situation.
But the Liberals simply choose to smear, score political points, and damage our Country's reputation.
Does anyone REALLY believe that the Liberals are doing this simply for ultruistic reasons?
C'Mon... You know dam well that they're not! It's sickening.
They don't hold any moral high ground,and to make claim that they do,is pure partisan politics.
